JTI Trains 30 Court Bailiffs

Over 30 Court Bailiffs from Uganda's Central Region attended orientation training on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI).
The half-day event that was organized by the institute was intended to enable teamwork and consistent effective administration in the country.
Hon.Justice Dr. Henry Peter Adonyo, the Executive Director of JTI flagged off the half day training designed to ensure effective administration in the country.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Justice Adonyo cautioned the bailiffs against manipulating court orders.
"...Such behavior cannot be tolerated for gone are the days of impunity and if you are found wanting then you will not only be open to disciplinary action but open to both criminal and civil prosecutions."
He encouraged the Uganda Court Bailiff Association to work hand-in-hand with the Judiciary, especially the Chief Registrar to continuously weed out the undesirables and to enable their profession to grow.
The Ag. Registrar of the High Court, HW Tom Chemutai emphasized the role of a Court Bailiff in the administration of justice and their relationship with key justice actors that is the court, advocates and litigants.
HW Chemutai said it was important for other actors in the execution process such as police and resident district commissioners to be tipped on their roles in the process.
The Registrar Execution & Bailiffs Division, HW Elias Omar Kisawuzi urged the participants to "remain humane" even as they exercise their mandate.
The President of the Uganda Court Bailiffs Association, Mr. Basoyita Robert,thanked the Judiciary administration for the training and appealed to them to extend similar trainings to other regions for the benefit of other bailiffs.
